Five Oklahoma high school students sponsored by Oklahoma United landed in Washington, D.C. Monday for spring break to experience our government in action!
Close Up Foundation’s Washington, D.C. High School Program is a one-of-a-kind trip for students to experience their government in action. During this six-day/five-night program, students make personal connections with the people, institutions, and iconic sites that embody our nation’s past and present.
The five students will be exploring Washington D.C. “up close” with other students from across the United States. Close Up endeavors to schedule meetings for each student with his or her home-state congressional staff and elected officials as well as policy experts. Other tours include museums, the U.S. Capitol and other public buildings and offices, monuments, the Mall, and other historic sites, with personalized and behind-the-scenes tours and question/answer sessions with instructors and various elected and appointed officials in government.
Expenses covered by Oklahoma United include: airfare, hotel, tuition, transportation to and in DC for scheduled events, daily pocket money, admission to scheduled tours, and program supplies.
The Close Up Foundation has produced student civics experiences since 1971. Discussions, light assignments for reading, and journaling are part of the program.
Oklahoma high school students Alma, Lynlee, Julianne and “Cat” landed in our nation’s capital Sunday as part of Close Up Foundation’s Washington, D.C. High School Program.
